Social Anxiety: What You Don't Want People to Notice| A Real Life Client Story
The WISDOM podcast Season 2 Episode 79
Have you ever felt anxious or awkward in social settings?
I explained to my client Kara that social anxiety is an experience that happens to us all.
An invitation to a party; work colleagues that you know fairly well but there is also a room of other people that you will have only just met. You arrive late and after a long shift at work; but in honesty you’ve been procrastinating as you got ready and secretly hoped that you could maybe just blow the party off; except you do want to go. When you arrive, everyone is already seated around a large dining table, eating, talking, laughing; and now all eyes are on you. You have difficulty breathing and making eye contact as the host introduces you to each person around the table. You wish you stayed home but everyone seems so friendly, well maybe everyone except her; the woman that staring you up and down. You’ve forgotten what you’ve just said to a question someone has asked, and you don’t know where you should sit and is that an open seat? ...and why is this so difficult?
These are some of the rapid fire thoughts that cross your mind as your heart is racing; pounding so loud that your own voice seems inaudible. You feel self-conscious; you should have worn the other outfit you had lying on your bed; you dressed up way too much compared with everyone else. What have you gotten yourself into?
Join me in this episode as we discuss:

Chakra WISDOM: Your Anahata Chakra
The WISDOM podcast Season 2 Episode 78
Welcome back to this sacred journey into the chakras.
The chakra system originated in India between 1500 and 500 BC – more than four thousand years ago in the ancient literature of the Vedas. Evidence of the chakras, is also found in the Upanishads, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, and perhaps most thoroughly in the sixteenth century by an Indian yogi in a text called the Sat-Chakra-Nirupana.
The chakra system was taught orally by the Indo-Eurpoean people (also called the Aryan people). It was traditionally considered an Eastern philosophy until New Age authors, like Anodea Judith and others, resonated with this wisdom and began writing about the chakras.
If you’ve been joining me in this series, I hope that you’ve allowed yourself to explore the wisdom of these ancient energy centers; these spinning sacred wheels of life. They are believed to hold energetic space within us; and which link areas of the body and psyche with associated metaphysical realms.
Within each episode in this series, I describe how each chakra affects our psychology, and our emotions and behaviours as human beings. Based on the teachings of this ancient wisdom and the modern day authors who bring this wisdom to life, I share it because it is yet another important way to understand the self; your patterns and behaviours; and how you may help yourself unblock and balance the flow of energy that moves through you. You also begin to draw insights and a helpful perspective from the ancient wisdom of the chakras, including what limiting thoughts and beliefs hold you back from living the full expression of life.
Perhaps, most important still, my hope is to give you additional resources and another source of self-healing; for finding and thriving ‘in balance’, and for helping to effect the change you seek – within yourself and of your life.
As I share with you the teachings of your fourth chakra, I reference and take direct quotes from Anodea Judith’s book: Eastern Body Western Mind: Psychology and the Chakra System as a Path to the Self and the work of Carolyn Myss and her book: Anatomy of the Spirit. The Seven Stages of Power and Healing. I’ll link up their work here in the description; as both are esteemed experts in this field, and these are great reads if you wish to learn more.
A chakra is a center of organization that receives, assimilates, and expresses life force energy. Based on their location in the body the chakras have become associated with various states of consciousness, archetypal elements, and philosophical constructs. The lower chakras, for example which are physically closer to the earth, are related to the more practical matters of our lives – survival, movement, action. They are ruled by physical and social law. The upper chakras represent mental realms and work on a symbolic level through words, images, and concepts. Each of the seven chakras from the base of the spine to the crown of the head, represents a major area of human psychological health.
Here we dive into your Anahata, your heart center. Since the heart chakra is the middle point in a system of seven centers, balance, together with love and relationship) are the essential principles at this level of integration. This implies both internal balance between various aspects of ourselves (mind and body, persona and shadow, masculine and feminine), as well as between ourselves and the world around us (for example: work and play, giving and receiving, socializing and being alone).
It is important to continue to find and live in equilibrium, for without balance within ourselves it is difficult, if not impossible, to achieve healthy and long-lasting love relationships. The basic right of the heart chakra is to love and to be loved.
Be sure to take part in the guided meditation that closes out this episode. It is a beautiful experience in balancing the beautiful sacred energy of this chakra. 🧘♀️💜 Namaste!

How Long Have You Waited For Love?| A Real Life Client Story
The WISDOM podcast S2 E77
For so many clients it is in that very first session that we chart a course for the journey deep within; a journey that is often overdue; a journey that will help free clients from what hurts and trauma have caused them to doubt in their ability to feel whole and of peace; a journey that safely guides them into healing, love, acceptance and approval for what was not given freely and without conditions ~ and of which they (sometimes unknowingly), are now ready to give to themselves.
How Long Have You Waited For Love?
We are beginning to understand that love must be willingly given to our self ~ that we cannot thrive in the absence of it and we do not need to wait for someone to love us to feel loved.
Love as a feeling and a state of being that is experienced out of living in self-love.
Each one of us is equipped to love and to give love ceaselessly. We are all hard wired for this ~ to love yourself and to love others and to do this as the love of one human being to another.
It may be that we need to practice self-love ~ to first learn it and to be reminded of the ways that we already do this.
The experience of love directed inward is how we reclaim our power and our wholeness.
To direct love inward through words and actions of loving-kindness is how we walk the planet in perfect oneness; feeling attuned with our ability to feel loved.
Here I share the story of my client Sara* and her partner Dana* and the many self-sacrifices that Sara made in order to keep the relationship even as it became strife and emotional turmoil ~ in tact.
*The names here have been changed to maintain confidentiality. My client’s story is real.

Chakra WISDOM: Your Manipura Chakra
The WISDOM podcast Season 2 Episode 76
Welcome to this beautiful series and a journey through these sacred centers of wisdom called chakras.
Each of the seven major chakras that we explore in this series, influence and govern accompanying areas of the body as well as the emotional, physical, psychological and spiritual states that impact our path into the self.
On a physical level, these spirals of energy correspond to massive nerve centers in the body. Each of the seven main chakras contain bundles of nerves and relates to major organs as well as our psychological, emotional, and spiritual states of being. Since everything is moving, it’s essential that our seven main chakras stay open, aligned, and fluid. If there is a blockage, energy simply cannot flow and we can literally feel stuck in life.
The Symbolic Power of the Seven Chakras
Each of the seven energy centers of the human body contains a universal spiritual life lesson that we must learn as we evolve into higher consciousness. I take lead from the work of Carolyn Myss, one of my longtime favorite authors and someone whose work I followed early in my own spiritual development. Her book: Anatomy of the Spirit. The Seven Stages of Power and Healing. is another beautiful read of the chakra system and from where I directly quote and reference much of the teachings for the third chakra; our focus in this episode.
I’ll drop a link for it in the description. It is a classic. If you wish to read more on your third chakra, please check out the reading list I have prepared in the description.
Be sure to take part in the guided meditation that closes out this episode. It is a beautiful experience in balancing the beautiful sacred energy of this chakra. 🧘♀️💜 Namaste!

Who Do I Really Want To Be?| A Real Life Client Story
The WISDOM podcast Season 2 Episode 75
To awaken begins the inner journey; a flurry of questions that ponder a deeper longing, that begin to highlight and address what needs to improve; to change; perhaps to end, in order that you may be content and happy, and at peace.
When your questions become a source of deeper longing for change; and of what is both needed and important for you now and for the rest of your life... it is time to know your answers.
Jon’s questions center around a theme of self-examination and the desire for change. It is usually our dissatisfaction and unhappiness with one or more aspects of our self and thus impacting the quality of our life; that makes change necessary.
We can continue to live – and sometime we do – indefinitely – hoping and likely also working to fix or change a situation, a relationship, or how another person treats us; yet in the end, you have control only over yourself: your thoughts and perceptions, how you feel and your actions and reactions.
You are self-governing. If your life situations or a particular person is contributing to your disharmony and sadness, I encourage you to find your solution; to no longer continue in the pain and suffering of what is not fulfilling nor kind and loving.
Begin to ask the questions that will help guide you towards truth and the right solutions that you can then act upon with growing confidence.
It is only when you are no longer willing to continue on a path that is detrimental; that imposes suffering; that happiness can be found again.
Ideally, the goal is to continue to make healthy adjustments and to auto correct all the time. To adjust and reposition, to amend and re-calibrate what you are doing or not doing means that you do not ‘find’ yourself in a situation that is heartbreaking and difficult because you are self-aware and awake.
As you experience yourself in the present moments of your life; and simultaneously a witness to what you see and sense, you are able to determine through self-awareness, what you need and how you need to be. “You fix a problem with the solution; and not by focusing on the problem.”
Ask the deeper questions. Be willing to hear your answers. This helps you to live in your truth. This is the first step to solving a problem; to finding the best solution; to navigating a path and a strategy that will always help you.
Sometimes clients will email me questions. For some clients, our entire session is communicated in an exchange of emails. Such is the case of my client Jon. Next, I share my email reply together with more questions for him to probe deeper. Jon’s real name has been changed to maintain confidentiality.

Chakra WISDOM: Your Swadhisthana Chakra
The WISDOM podcast Season 2 Episode 74
Welcome to this beautiful series and a journey through these sacred centers of wisdom called chakras.
As we dive into the realm of our second chakra, we encounter emotions and sexuality. Where the first chakra centers around survival and structure, the focus here is all about movement, creativity, and flow. The Sacral Chakra or Swadhisthana governs the energy of creativity, pleasure, sex, procreation, control and morality. It also presides over dreams and fantasies.
The second chakra is located in the lower abdomen. The color of this chakra is bright orange. Its glow fills the pelvis, bathing the sexual organs, enlivening our desire and capacity for pleasure.
As I share the sacred wisdom of this Chakra, I lean to a wonderful book titled: The Rainbow Journey: Seven Steps to Self-Healing, Dr. Brenda Davies. Years earlier, I would find a used copy of this book. It was very worn and the spine had let go, and yet I saw it as a ‘sweet’ find and it continues to be a wonderful resource and guide to the chakra system. I’ll leave a link for it in the description.
I purposefully use the word ‘sweet’ as the Sanskrit word Swadhisthana has many translations – ‘the sacred home’, ‘the sweet place’ and ‘the goddess’ favorite standing place” because here at the second chakra it is about allowing pleasure and joy in the many experiences of life.
As I share with you the teachings of this Chakra, I also reference and take direct quotes from Anodea Judith’s book: Eastern Body Western Mind: Psychology and the Chakra System as a Path to the Self and I’ll link up her work here for you also, as she is an esteemed expert in the Chakras.
Be sure to take part in the guided meditation that closes out this episode. It is a beautiful experience in balancing the beautiful sacred energy of this chakra. 🧘♀️💜 Namaste!

What Are My Boundaries?| A Real Life Client Story
The WISDOM podcast Season 2 Episode 72
The topic of boundaries is a popular theme in therapy and an important personal practice when you are seeking to make your life better and to feel an ease in happiness.
When you have clear and present boundaries that you live by, it makes it easier to navigate your life.
It allows you the autonomy to always choose based on your needs and highest values; and others appreciate and respect that you know yourself well and are consistent – in your words and actions.
The definition of a boundary is: something that indicates or fixes a limit or extent.
In this episode of ‘ask dorothy’ I share one client’s journey to repair the damage of not having healthy boundaries in place with the solution of building those boundaries – now.
If your needs and requests have not being heard nor respected by others; it’s time to get clear about what is okay and what you no longer will continue.
Setting boundaries and then upholding them begins with a change in how you think and your willingness to honor yourself first.
If you are unhappy with how others treat you – if you have felt a lack of care and respect in the value that others show you; and if others consistently make demands of you; of your time, help, efforts, and also love – you may be listening because you realize it's time to set your boundaries and to better uphold what you decide for how you want to exist in your life; and the parameters for your relationships.

Chakra WISDOM: Your Muladhara Chakra
The WISDOM podcast Season 2 Episode 72
Welcome to this special series and a journey through these sacred centers of wisdom called chakras.
Our bodies are a complex configuration of energy. We also have 72,000 "nadis," or energy channels (think of them like highways) along which vital energy, or "prana," travels. When the nadis meet at different points in the body, they form a triangle. The Sanskrit word for this triangle is chakra and literally translates as "wheel" or “disk” referring to a spinning sphere of bioenergetic activity emanating from the major nerve ganglia branching forward from the spinal column.
There are seven of these wheels stacked in a column of energy that spans from the base of the spine to the top of the head. (image) There are also minor chakras in the hands, feet, fingertips, and shoulders for a total of 114 chakras throughout the body.
The chakra system according to one expert, Anodea Judith (and I will reference and also quote her work throughout) is a seven-leveled philosophical model of the universe. It is the seven major chakras that correlate with basic states of consciousness, and it is these that we will together examine here and in each of the next several episodes.
AFFIRMATIONS FOR THE ROOT CHAKRA:
I am a beloved child of the universe and I deserve love, peace, and security.
I open myself to receive the abundance of the universe.
I love my body and trust its wisdom to keep me healthy.
I am open to receive and accept love.
I am open to receive and be nurtured by the powerful energy of the earth.
I am a physical being and value my physical presence.
I resolve to take care of my body and accept it as it is today.
I value my body as the physical temple in which I live and I will aim to provide for its needs in terms of healthy food, rest, activity, and general nurturing.

How PTSD Happens| A Real Life Client Story
The WISDOM podcast Season 2 Episode 71
Here I share the story of a client: of whom I continue to work with at the time of writing this. Her name has been changed to protect her identity; her story is real.
Carol – a 26yr old female living and working in North America never knew that the physical, verbal and emotional abuse she sustained in a 3-yr relationship with a boy she met whilst still living in her homeland of China would be the reason for why she has been suffering with PTSD or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Let me define first what this is because if you are listening; if you or someone you know has experienced exposure to trauma you – or they – may also be experiencing the ongoing symptoms of this mental health condition that often goes undiagnosed; the focus may instead be on one or some of its symptoms without truly understanding the magnitude of the impact of this disorder beyond the abuse itself.
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition in which people experience a variety of symptoms following exposure to a traumatic event. These may include flashbacks, nightmares, intrusive thoughts, anxiety, avoidance, and changes in mood and thinking. Symptoms may include re-experiencing the traumatic event, avoiding reminders of the trauma, startling easily, and having negative thoughts and beliefs.
Not every abusive relationship will traumatize someone to the point where they are exhibiting symptoms of PTSD, but it is possible. If you or someone you know has experienced prolonged abuse of any form; whether a witness to this or directly, and perpetrated by someone that was supposed to love and respect you, it is worthwhile to complete a screening tool or checklist for PTSD.
I invite you to use the link that I will place in the description for both an online post-traumatic stress disorder screening tool and a self-assessment tool that can help make sense of why you may be feeling the way you do. I will also leave resources for treatment so that you can begin to help yourself.

What Matters Now. A Rebirth Awaits You.
The WISDOM podcast Season 2 Episode 70
‘Reclaim your ability to look within; to live true to your highest morals and values; and to be love’
At the time that I am writing this episode we are well into a fourth wave of this pandemic; and one that experts claim will may impact a younger cohort of the population. Many parts of the world continue to be in various stages of lock down and extended stay-at-home orders. The reported numbers of new cases of COVID-19 and its variants are in many places greater than they have ever been since the onset of this pandemic.
Among the first activities of the day for so many now include an update on the reported new cases of people infected and of how many have died; making this news – this reality - our fervent new normal. The scope of which can distract us further from our self – and from all that is within your power to change; to take hold of; to feel inspired by and for what matters right now; for all that lies within your control including the principles for how you choose to live your life.
I begin here because a planetary pandemic is also a global tipping point and the catalyst for your next steps - and your rebirth. A rebirth – a revival – a spiritual regeneration, a phoenix rising up from the ashes. A metamorphosis.
While we do not know what exactly the future holds; each one of us has control over what our thoughts and actions will be; whether fear or love; whether perpetual self-healing (emotional, physical, psychological, and generational) or the co-creation of more ‘dis’ ‘ease’ through the fear-based thoughts and beliefs that we continue to hold; that cause us to revive and relive trauma – as it relates to our greatest fears in this pandemic and also of our past, and everything that has ever happened to us.
You may continue to focus on the world’s pained struggles to help and heal our population as we experience such an overwhelming plight, and yet will you take more seriously your need to stand tall in your own life; to rise above what you have always done; what has not been in support of you; and what self-sabotaging behaviours you may continue in.
What matters now is for you to examine what you have been living; what you still struggle with; what you know could be better; to align yourself with what you have wanted for some time; perhaps what you have even given up on.
Do you need a rebirth or have you already begun a metamorphosis?

In this episode of ‘ask dorothy’ I share a question from a client that highlights the struggle to arrive at peace; and the simple and ever so profound means by which peace is always a part of you. This is how it is easily accessible.
This is why I wanted to share this client question because within her question is her answer. It the answer that will also be the right answer in your quest of finding and living in peace.
Peace is what we need to have more than ever; as well as the ability to access it from within; that you may no longer feel ‘lost’ or ‘reliant on something’ to be responsible for your own inner peace.
Please keep sending in the questions. They are amazing! They are so rich and real and helpful for others. I hope that this answer provides a greater understanding as to why it can be difficult in some moments to lose yourself in your meditation practice.
Sometimes we need to be more attentive to our body’s experience and thus mindful breathing will not only dismiss the noise in the mind, it will help relax your body; giving you a different experience of meditation and of what you can enjoy as you feel peace within.

How To Correct The Habits You Keep| A Real Life Client Story
The WISDOM podcast Season 2 Episode 67
If you have been wanting to fix something about how you have been living your life, please listen on. This episode is to help you get unstuck, to eliminate old habits and to help you become inspired to build the new success habits that you have wanted.
These simple life hacks are the best practices for how to change. This is your road map back to yourself. 💜
Hannah blamed the many lockdowns and the mandatory social isolating during the height of COVID for the life habits that she had succumbed to; endless hours sitting on her couch watching tv, scrolling through her social media, and eating. But the truth was that these were habits that were already well ingrained.
Waking each morning to brewing coffee whilst she went outside on the balcony to smoke. Scrolling through her social media feed and watching random tv as the first activities of her morning were examples of disconnection, emptiness and a lack of joy.
We all live by habits. Our deep-seated ways of being are often on autopilot so that even the habits that we enjoy ~ perhaps like brewing freshly roasted organic coffee, or a soothing matcha green tea are experiences that we no longer appreciate nor savor.
If you didn’t practice self-love before this global pandemic, If your will to seeing your best possible outcome was wavering; then you likely haven’t been thriving in the way that you could. To enjoy self-care and self-love and to be disciplined in what steps you take to ensure that you are caring for yourself; is one of the most important and gratifying actions that you could live each day. Discipline is work.
Which is why it's important to hold very clear in your mind what the outcome and goal truly looks and feels like so that you can achieve this. Self-love is also work; it requires the ongoing self-care that translates into you being important enough that you don’t give up on yourself.
Changing habits means rethinking how you have been living; what you prioritize as important and relearning the habits that make you a priority.

The Best Part About A Breakup| A Real Life Client Story
The WISDOM podcast Season 2 Episode 65
The breakups that are the most difficult are the ones you have not prepared for. You may know in your heart that this is not the right person for you and yet you are not ready to let them go - to be alone – to be for a time, lonely; to rediscover what it means to be with your self.
You may not yet be ready to fill your life with your own company; to be single; to be rejected, to wonder if you will ever meet someone great or someone at all?
The best part about a breakup is that you are forced to be with yourself; something that may not be easy nor comfortable at first; but if you can stay with this; I promise with my help and guidance, and with your belief that you are worth being with – you will find the most incredible person to appreciate and love – in yourself.
Your breakup, even if it was not what you chose and even as it does not feel so right now, in this moment – it is an opportunity to pause; to examine what was not right for you.
Here, I share my client Anna's story and a wholeness perspective on how a breakup is also a rebirth and a love affair that you have with yourself. Namaste! 💜

Parenting 101: Self-Regulation IS Self-Mastery| A Real Life Client Story
The WISDOM podcast Season 2 Episode 63
It’s possible that your child will have some or many of the same cognitive, emotional, and behavioral needs as you did when you were young. Still, all children thrive in the presence of love.
My client Samantha* and I spoke about the origin and root cause of her son’s behavioral tendencies; his well-established diagnosis of ADHD, and the latest outburst which led to her six year-old wielding his fist straight at her face. Samantha had a black eye.
Here I would help my client by sharing some of the constructive benefits of self-regulation that I encouraged her to both practice and of course to teach her son Aaron.
With the tools to successfully calm himself, to express his anger in a healthy and safe way, without causing harm to another; to help him process how he feels with cognitive restructuring and problem solving solutions, and of course to help Aaron understand why it is so important that human beings learn to self-soothe and to self-govern their words and actions.
