Life in Exquisite Balance
The WISDOM podcast Season 3 Episode 46
~ Brahmacharya as a moral discipline is how we turn the mind inward and how we balance the senses, leading us to freedom from dependencies and cravings. ~
💜
How do you live in balance? in harmony? with yourself and with all of life? Why is balance and harmony the key for feeling complete, full, and whole?
In a culture of excess, can we enjoy and savour the sacredness of singular moments ~ each moment woven into the next and to which becomes the flow of life and all that we know life to be.
In the last several episodes we’ve been exploring the yamas. The word Yama is Sanskrit for ‘restraint’. It is more commonly defined as a moral discipline and moral code that guides us into self-actualization ~ meaning... to attain our psychological needs for personal growth and development throughout our life and to live a life of meaning and purpose.
There are five yamas that are found in the ancient text: ‘The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali’. The Yoga Sutras are akin to a guide or an instruction manual on how to live and to advance along a spiritual path towards enlightenment.
This episode of ‘ask dorothy’ is a Q and A. It is for you to ponder my questions and to hold reflection whether as you include any of these in your journal writing, or simply as constructs in which to open your mind and your heart.
We all live with excess. Think about the means by which you have and acquire more. Does having more of something fulfill you ~ or ~ is fulfillment the appreciation of the experience or object before you ~ and in its fullest capacity?
Brahmacharya is about moderation of the senses. As a moral discipline it is a key practice for managing our sensory cravings.
The secret to live in the balance – to not need the excess – to moderate the indulgences so they are not in control of you, is to enjoy what is right now ~ what you already have, what exists all around you ~ and here in this moment.
This is what is meant to enjoy fully the pleasure of now. It is to witness the precious nature of each moment in its full capacity without the distractions of looking to something more or different.
Sending you great 💜 love...
Sharing the wisdom and beauty of divine love with you...
Namaste!
