The Birth of Meditation in Your Life.

The WISDOM podcast  Season 3  Episode 16

- Your inner sanctuary is what builds and sustains your outer life. -

💜

“Let’s make it official! You’ve just up levelled your meditation experience with me!”

If you’ve been listening to the podcast you know that I cover topics of spiritual and practical wisdom. This podcast is a medium for me to share with you what we might discuss in a client session of therapy and coaching, and what may be a recommendation for a new meditation for you to try...

I’ve also dedicated some episodes just for that – to share a meditation that is meant to evoke the space and the guidance to help you experience quiet moments and moments that are not so quiet because now you are hearing everything that was silenced before.

Meditation opens you to listen more deeply; to the world within. Meditation allows you to calibrate your inner world with the perceptions you live in the world around you. This means that the inner peace that you hold becomes the peace that you live; and in all of your encounters with others.

Meditation is to listen to the space that you exist in; your physical environment – the kids playing downstairs, the neighbour's dog barking as someone walks by on the street; the ambient music playing in the background, the furnace that just turned off. Maybe you have observed your brain – noticing what feels like neurons firing up; you can literally feel yourself awakening to your full cognitive functioning.

It could be the coffee but nonetheless, you are present to it; perceptive in ways that you have not noticed before.

So are you ready? Let's dive into together - let's birth this!  Your free form meditation practice experience of 5 minutes is about to ease you into one of the most incredible states of being.

This is your first step. Whether right now with me or after you listen to the rest of this audio, let’s together witness the space and time of now for five minutes. Begin here because in five minutes your whole life can change.

If you would like to experience other guided meditation with me, you must check out The Wisdom Archives: a digital sanctuary of guided meditations, mindfulness musings, spiritual teachings, and best practices for your mental wellness.  Enjoy the free content here and then subscribe.  Your monthly membership is your access to everything here!  New content is added weekly!  Namaste! 🙏

Sending you great 💜 love...

The psychology behind our desire to recreate and re-live our most cherished memories of holidays past is to feel that same childlike joy, fascination, and wonder that was magical.

In this episode we dive into The Three Best Practices for cultivating the magic of the holidays in real time; and the strategy for how to do this most successfully.

This is your thrive guide for the holidays.

TRUTH SERUM: You decide that something is magical and beautiful because of how you choose to think about it.  Let your memories of Christmases past be inspiration as you witness the magic and beauty of life all around you.  We sometimes forget our ability to conjure magic in simple things.

A-HA MOMENTS: It matters that you find and feel joy in the real meaning of the holidays.  Practice being love, bringing joy, and offering peace as you cultivate the present moment experiences of wonder, joy, and enchantment at the holidays.

PRACTICAL WISDOM: It is you that co-creates the magic; by choice.  This episode offers an experience of high level consciousness and the best strategy for cultivating magic, wonder and love.

Do you aim to recreate the magical moments of holidays past?

Do you imagine yourself at a particular moment in time during childhood where everything was enchanting; surreal, and as if you were living in a fantasy?

We tend to go to moments of our childhood as they evoke imagination and powerful imagery that immediately places us back in that time of innocence, of wonder, and of belief in the magic of the holidays.

Do you think back to memories that evoke pure joy, laughter, and fun, so that you can feel those precise feelings now?

As a child, you may have anticipated what gifts were waiting for you under the tree on Christmas morning or what you might receive on every night of Hanukkah.

As an adult, I encourage you to decide how you will curate magic and wonder by design so that you can experience joy, anticipation, excitement, and of course love because you've opened your heart to it; and because of the actions that you've taken to feel magic through the acts of giving, of being grateful, of loving kindness and of nurturing your relationships with your loved ones.

In this episode we dive into the best strategy for curating the magic of the holidays; and for experiencing joy in the anticipation of new experiences and shared laughter and fun.  I hope that you will want to continue using these Three Best Practices as 'the' strategy for how you live life!

Discover new ways to feel the magic and wonder of the holidays by opening your heart; and by being grateful for everything as it is now.

What can you say and do to bring joy and comfort to others through your kind words and actions?

Let's begin with a few questions.  Right here is a perfect opportunity to engage your inner wisdom.  Let whatever intuitive answers that rise up, be what you give your attention to.

Grab some paper and a pen because you are going to want to capture the first impressions and ideas that enter your mind.

These are important and will be  worth exploring more as you decide what new actions and thoughts you will hold for what you wish to co-create.

What are your sources of joy?  What allows you to feel happiness easily?

Write your answers.  Point form.  Dare to speak these aloud so that you can hear the enjoyment in your voice as you speak your words.

Next ask yourself: How will I feel love, joy and happiness throughout the holidays?

The key here is: how will you feel this for yourself.  (For example, do you need to to be kind to yourself to feel love?  Do you feel joy and happiness when you are doing something that you enjoy?)

Take a few moments here and consider this.  Let whatever impressions and pictures that come to mind be helpful cues for you.  Record your answers so that you can remember this inspiration and implement it.

Your visual prompts and ideas will help you create a game plan.

The notes that you are making right here, right now will help you decide the strategy of the next several days and weeks of the holidays.  It may also give you new ideas for the best practices in which to live your life.

As much as we all love to feel enchantment, magic, and wonder; which is often cultivated by reminiscing about a past memory or experience that we associate with feelings of love and joy, I want you to decide how you will evoke these incredible feelings by choosing the specific actions and the attitude that will allow you to feel the way you want to feel throughout the holiday season.

And, and if you've already figured this out, yes indeed - this is about what you can do to evoke these feelings and not what you might wait for or hope that someone will do for you.

We often idealize a situation that we would like but without taking all of the steps that ensures that we may have this.  This is how you manifest your reality.

If you haven't yet, please listen next to Episode 8 of the WISDOM Podcast which is all about how you manifest your desires.

In thinking about how you will decide to feel the magic, wonder and love at this time of year, my hope is that this becomes a plan that inspires you to choose how you want to feel and experience life; and to remember that above all else, you always have a choice; and that it is you that defines your magical moments, whether at the holidays or any time because of your ability to hold presence in the moments of your life and to look for and see the beauty, the magic, in most everything; and perhaps in all of life.

What allows you to feel joyful at the holidays?  Does happiness and joy originate within you; and with your choice to be joyful, kind, and loving?

What makes the holidays enjoyable, less stressful and chaotic, more nourishing of love and self-care, is a rather simple yet ingenious formula - your thrive guide if you will, consisting of three effective principles or 'best practices'.

First: 'Be Love'.  Practice giving love to yourself - first.

Honour what you believe in and what is right for you (especially since others have different value systems and beliefs relating to the holidays).  Ensure that you have ample time for giving to yourself; for what is important to you, and what nourishes your soul.  This will always be healthy practices that allow you to feel 'in-balance', supported, and uplifted.  Giving to yourself first is not selfish.

The definition of selfish is to lack consideration for others; and to seek or focus on your own advantage, pleasure, or well-being without regard for others.

Giving to yourself is self-nourishing, and builds healthy self-worth. It is necessary for your well-being and positive mental state to care for and be loving towards yourself.

As you practice and nurture self-love, it is easier to be loving to others; to give to others of your time and care, because you have first been able to care for your needs.

The questions and visualization we did a moment ago was to reveal to you what you need to feel happiness, joy and the energy of love.  Ensure that you take these ideas and implement them daily.

As the holidays approach and then as you become immersed in them, give to yourself as the first task of the day; even if in small ways.  To acknowledge love unto yourself will have great payoffs.  You will feel more 'in balance', happier, more easily able to navigate stress and challenges, and you will find it even easier to give love to others.

This first principle is also a best practice for how to live life.

Learn to take care of your needs on a regular (moment-by-moment) basis so that you can easily be at your best, and to be this with others.  Consider that when you are agitated or in a low mood, it will be more difficult to wear a smile and engage with positivism.

From a positive mood state, it is far easier and less stressful to engage in conversation and to be 'on' for the moments when you are in settings that are challenging.  If it helps, repeat the mantra: 'be love' or 'I am love'.  It will remind you of your higher consciousness directives and it will help so much with a joyful, loving holiday experience.

How do you become better at the choices that will help you take better care of yourself and do what nourishes your soul?

How do you better assess your needs and give yourself more love when there doesn't seem to be enough time in a day for this?

Here are some best practices and the positive mindset that is needed to ensure that you take the best care of yourself because to do so is self-nourishing and self-love.

1. Self-care and self-love begin as a mindset.  It's something that you must decide is important first in order for you to make this a priority in your life.  In the questions that you have already answered about what are your sources of joy and happiness, use your answers to inspire a plan for how you will practice self-care, balance, and love directed unto yourself during a time of year in which you may feel more pressure and external demands from others, and especially if you are new to this practice.

This is why it's important to decide and map out in advance, what you are comfortable to do, and what you will decline.

Saying 'yes' to everything may be helpful for some, however if you are honouring your needs and if this includes a need to decline some activities, or to choose how you will participate in something because in doing so, it honours your beliefs, then following this practice of self-care and self-love will help greatly in taking care of yourself.

Discover how you can give to yourself in the ways that will sustain you and allow you to feel inherent joy; and how this is important and not selfish nor self-serving.

Click to tweet!

"Self-care and self-love is the ability to acknowledge what would make you happiest; what is right and best for you, and to consistently give this to yourself."  - Dorothy Ratusny

Second: 'Bring joy'.  When you are inherently happy; when you recognize that authentic happiness is an experience that you choose; and based upon the positive feelings that you allow yourself to feel; that are inherently a part of you, you know that happiness is not the result of what others think, say, or do.

This means that at holiday gatherings, others may not always be at their best; and you as well may have hurt feelings from unresolved past situations.

Without needing anything or anyone to be responsible for your happiness, you can choose to bring joy; to show up at holiday functions and family gatherings in a positive mood state, and this allows you to spread joy; to observe how your innate happiness is like a feel good experience that is contagious.

One of the easiest ways to feel happiness instinctively is through gratitude and love.  If you are being loving, you are also going to feel happiness.  When you are thankful for what is in your life; for all of the good that you might take for granted, you will immediately elicit feelings of happiness from within.

Be happy and fully present with family and friends.  Practice feeling gratitude and love for all that you have in your life; even as you continue to work on making aspects different or better.

The holidays are a time for many of us to come together for a short while; make this time joyful.

Consider how magical it was for you to feel joy and happiness as a child because of how others wanted so much for you to feel the magic of the holidays.  Now, bring joy into the lives of others as you decide to be happy and positive and as you share of yourself fully.

"Important for the success of family gatherings at the holidays is the practice of building and nurturing your relationships throughout the year.  Then, when you come together at the holidays or at any family gathering, you will have built rapport and closeness which then makes it more enjoyable and easy to be with loved ones."  - dorothy ratusny

What would a healthier relationship look like? What are some simple steps that would improve your relationships?  How would having better relationships with family members feel?

Here are a few helpful reminders as you navigate the relationships that are important to you, and how to improve connections, gain a deeper appreciation of a loved one, and to cultivate closeness and a positive and loving relationship:

1. Practice building and nurturing your relationships throughout the year so that it will be more enjoyable when you gather for festive occasions. Far in advance of the holidays and as a practice for how you live life fully, plan to keep in touch with loved ones, to make an effort to see people that are important family members, and to address disagreements or conflict so that you can resolve what hurts you (and others) are feeling.

This is an important practice that often gets lost in the busyness of our life and yet, we gain so much from making a conscious decision to invest more in our family relationships.

I've seen firsthand how the ongoing effort to reconnect and build closer relationships leads to much healing of past situations, and an opportunity to feel closeness and comfort in being together, so that you can all enjoy this improved relationship at the holidays, and ongoing.

At the very least, prior to gathering with family and other loved ones, if there is an unresolved hurt that may take some time and effort to resolve, a phone call or loving note to your loved one, explaining your desire to overcome past hurts; will go a long way to feeling the love and making a otherwise uncomfortable situation, far more comfortable.

2. If you are not interesting in the work of building a better relationship with a family member; perhaps because you have tried and this has been one-sided; and you recognize the limitations that exist, do your best to remain neutral; to be in the moment as you are together, rather than to focus on what hurts or bad behaviours have happened in the past.  You may give yourself permission to not have a relationship with every person of your extended family.

If your time with this person is limited to gatherings once a year (if that); and if you have made peace with the fact that the person is how they are; that you are not responsible for changing them; then it is important for you to offer peace in your time with them; and not to use this setting to rehash the past or aim to change them.

Practice gratitude for your ability to put in place healthy boundaries and choose instead to offer kindness and peace here in this moment.

The WISDOM podcast  S2  Bonus Episode 3

Here I offer the ways in which to think about presence during meditation and how to live in a state of presence in the moments of your life.

Presence teaches you how to willfully enjoy life’s moments, how to allow them in; to accept what they have to offer; to flourish in the experience of them, and to trust that everything by means of each singular moment is meaningful; each moment is significant.

When you practice presence, you become attuned to what is around you. You become more aware of the inward dwelling space of your inner being; and what allows you to witness yourself – your true nature – as the purest aspect of what you are.

Try this simple practice of presence for a moment with me. Close your eyes. Focus on your breathing. Soften into what you feel. Notice your heartbeat beneath the hand that you gently hold unto your heart center.

Presence is about joining in the moments of your life as they are already unfolding; and riding the wave of each moment; being one with them.

It is in this way that the practice of presence opens you. It draws you into the richness of the life you are living; and for seeing and experiencing more.

Sending you great love....

💜

Namaste🙏

The Story of Gratitude: My Story

Season 2 Episode 13 of The WISDOM podcast

with Dorothy Ratusny

This is a story of gratitude. This is my story. I hope that in sharing it with you it inspires you to see the world through eyes of hope, love; and with forgiveness and acceptance of what is, and of course gratitude for the many blessings that life offers you as you choose to forgo the labels of right or wrong; good or bad and to instead consider each experience as important and of meaning. This will help you to find deeper significance and meaning in it this way.

This part is the story is the part of acceptance; of allowing for what has already happened; without blame and finger pointing; without the need to have answers, but instead to seek to understand from a perspective of what choices you now have as you comprehend what is most important now.

I chose to hold gratitude for what I had control over; that is what I would be able to do from that moment forward. I chose to heal completely; to have gratitude for my life and for being here; and for choosing to experience what my life is now; as important and meaningful. I chose to learn from this experience; to decide what I was being shown to look at and change; to be the best version of myself possible.

My life has forever changed since this story; everything has been for the better; to remind myself that the life I lived up until that moment was no longer the same life. When we focus only on what is in front of us, we can lose sight of what we are still manifesting and we become distracted and discouraged.

As I took each step forward, there were many opportunities to be grateful. Gratitude reminds us of what good we can pay attention to that we might otherwise take for granted. Without gratitude there can be a tendency to wallow, to disapprove, to be a victim. This does not help your capacity for what is most wanted.

Unleash Yourself

Season 2 Episode 11 of The WISDOM podcast

with Dorothy Ratusny

It is most fitting at this time to share this - this prose.  It was written two years to the day that I am recording.  It fits beautifully with what we are all called to do at this time; to awaken our senses; to step into a greater consciousness that we might uphold for every decision, every action, every thought that we hold.  It is each one of us that chooses whether we will live from our heart and with this to embrace all of our perfect nature; to rise up; to meet our self in this perfect state as pureness of thought, without the conditions that we have once placed onto our self and with using our free will to always choose from our heart, of what is right and true - to live a bountiful and beautiful heaven on earth, here and now.

For wherever you are on your path at this time and as you continue to uphold the most sacred values; let this message inspire your journey, now and always... Namaste!

anatomyofanepisode-400x43.png

TRUTH SERUM:  To 'unleash' yourself is to allow yourself the freedom of self-expression through creativity, love, kindness and compassion.  It is to never hold yourself back from life's constant outpouring.

A-HA MOMENTS:  Embrace the power you hold within; go into this power - this truth - this security - this comfort; it exists within you; find it as love, find it as inner strength, find it in the deliberate calling of your nature - what you are.  When we make time to embrace our inner being we feel comforted in the knowledge that we are not alone; that we are never without knowledge and true wisdom that guides us in every moment.  Unleash this knowledge, this inner knowing as you fill yourself - your heart - your being - with this beautiful truth.

PRACTICAL WISDOM:  Follow the inner yearning of your soul - unleash your truth - be inspired by what you find and step forward into this.  this is your life's path unfolding; be on it - enjoy it - trust it wholly.

 love, dorothy

Self-Reliance IS Sustainability | The WISDOM podcast | Season 2 Episode 12

Self-Reliance IS Sustainability | The WISDOM podcast | Season 2 Episode 12

July 12, 2020

 Self-Reliance IS Sustainability.

“It’s what you must think of now.”

Season 2 Episode 12 of The WISDOM podcast

with Dorothy Ratusny

Self-reliance is having confidence in and exercising one's own powers or judgment. In fact, that is how we all need to live.

Sustainability refers to a lifestyle that involves the use of sustainable methods / of harvesting or using a resource so that the resource (and this resource could be ourselves), that is not depleted or permanently damaged.

anatomyofanepisode-400x43.png

TRUTH SERUM: There will continue to be uncertainty. You must become certain about what you want and how you wish to live your life. This time is a time of freedom – freedom from what has held you hostage from yourself. What you will choose to be a new set of practices and beliefs that you will hold; will allow you to rebirth yourself into something more, something better. You need this time to awaken; to set in motion this new stage of your life. You already have everything that you need for this.”

A-HA MOMENTS: In this brave new world we are living in, we are being challenged to examine what has been a pattern of reliance on structures, protocol, process, of external powers and condolences and of continuing to do what civilization has done since the industrial revolution. We have followed a model that has not always been self-sustaining nor healthy for ourselves and for the planet.

PRACTICAL WISDOM:  Yes, you have every right to have what you want in life; but are your desires to have more and better based on an ego-driven response and fuelled by competition, power and privilege; or are you making decisions that take into consideration your needs based on sustainability, conscientious and thoughtful decisions, humane, ethical, and kind practices?

anatomyofanepisode-400x43.png

In this episode I want to remind you of the power that you hold to choose for yourself the right and best relationship, and how you can stay clear of relationships that are damaging and abusive.

I also wish to illustrate how living with abuse, perpetuates a cycle of dependency and the eradicating of one's self-worth and sense of self; and I will share the story of my client 'Beth', and the four strategies to prevent you from finding yourself in an abusive relationship and enable you to leave.

TRUTH SERUM:  There are many forms of abuse. Abuse is, by definition, the mistreatment of another; whether intentional or as a facet of one's consistent actions that one may not be self-aware of.

A-HA MOMENTS:  Abuse in the traditional variant forms that we categorize as physical, emotional, and psychological all originate with one's thoughts and beliefs; that is what one tells one's self and justifies in being discriminating, hurtful, and disrespectful towards another, and how one's misguided intentions can lead into a situation and a relationship that is both damaging and abusive.

PRACTICAL WISDOM:  We know that relationships that are unhealthy and abusive are also complex and complicated. We stay in these relationships for different reasons; whether because we have convinced ourselves that there is something of benefit to us in staying; or we anticipate the enormous effort it will take to execute our decision to leave. We stay because we tell our self that the "relationship is really not that bad"; that maybe "we deserve how we are being mistreated"; and in some cases, we may tell ourselves "we don't care."

For whatever the reasons you may have found yourself with an abusive partner, know that by continuing to remain in the relationship, you continue to sacrifice yourself; emotionally, spiritually, physically, and cognitively or mentally.

If you are listening to this episode because something deep within you is yearning for help, guidance, and perhaps validation of what you know but have been afraid to believe, I hope that in listening, you will allow your inner voice to become louder, to rely on it for what you know is true and to be willing to care for yourself first with the knowledge that you are not alone, that you will get through this; that you will feel better, happier, and stronger; and that if and when you choose it, you can and will find the right partner and the love that you truly want.

 love, dorothy

anatomyofanepisode-400x43.png

Here, I share with you the ultimate self-care guide ; the very best habits and routines that will forever be how you care for your individual needs.  You might not yet realize just how important self-care is, until you experience for yourself just how much better you feel, and how self-sufficient and resilient you become when you give back to yourself; and its how you do this that is so important.

TRUTH SERUM:  Self-care is how you nourish and sustain yourself.  It is these practical habits that ensure that you have what is needed to care for yourself in the best possible way.

A-HA MOMENTS:  With the world ever-changing to support a new way of life for us all; of bringing to the forefront the need for self-care best practices that support and sustain your health and well being, now is the perfect time to invest in taking care of your every need.

PRACTICAL WISDOM:  With many personal services that we had come to rely on still closed at the time of writing this, we are being made to re-examine how we have been caring for our self; and what we can do now rather than wait; to bring into our life what important and even sacred self-care practices will nourish us; and to know that in providing this to our self, we feel more capable, self-sufficient, and in control.

As you apply self-care and also self-love practices, you ensure that you are living at your best, you boost your confidence and self-esteem, and the value that you hold in your self.

I've also included here a link for your ultimate self-care guide as a PDF.  Within the pdf are links to all of the resources that I mention throughout this episode. Each item in the pdf is also labelled to identify what basic self-care need you are addressing; whether physical, psychological, emotional or spiritual.

These are not in order of importance because all are fundamental to your self-care habits and best practices.

Click here to download the list in PDF.

Kindness As Love: A Tribute to George Floyd + A Prose Meditation

The WISDOM podcast  Season 2  Episode 7

with Dorothy Ratusny

TIMESTAMPS:

Podcast Intro:  0-1:33  |  There Is Something More:  2:05 |  When We Learn How To Treat Ourselves Kindly...  2:43  |  Beneath The Colour Of Our Skin...  3:37  |  A Global Pandemic Of A Different Nature:  4:19  |  Practice Kindness Unto Yourself First  6:33  |  Every Thought Is Powerful:  7:33  | George Floyd will...  7:57  |  How Best to Experience A Prose Meditation:  8:41  |  Prose Meditation - Kindness As Love:  10:09  |  Podcast Outro:  29:40

There is something else that we must look at now.  Now as we continue to navigate life; as we return to some of what has been absent; finding our way to a new and better way of life even as some aspects of this may take time to become what we are used to.  There is something more that we are being called to examine; to change if these beliefs conflict with what we know to be the right choice.

Right now in a world torn by differing beliefs; beliefs that have been taught to us by those who also did not have all of the right information; those who may have been living in fear, unknowing of what it truly means to live with your heart open and to be of kindness first and foremost unto yourself.

Because when we learn how to treat ourselves kindly; how to change the thoughts that we want to hold that are remarkable; that instill within us the examples of love and compassion; of resiliency; and inner strength; of teaching ourselves and our children how to live as our inherent goodness and to always do the right thing.

Then we become a home, a community, a nation and a planet in which amongst our differences we share the commodity of loving grace; of treating each other with dignity, respect, kindness - for beneath the colour of our skin, the clothes we wear, beneath the thoughts that we might hold or our learned beliefs; we are all of the same physical structure; our hearts beat - we walk and run, we can use our hands to form the universal symbol of peace or to disrespect another.

We can build gardens, playgrounds, places to meet; to laugh, to gather, to share our talents or we can build walls that divide and separate.

What we are reminded of in the world at this time is a global pandemic of a different nature and one that is equally important. We are reminded of how intolerance, rage, suffering, violence... spreads. It is a disease - a virus of its own nature, if allowed to persist.

This brave new world that we are being thrust forward into is a world that must be founded on the protection of love and kindness. Kindness is Love.

When you practice this, when you hold kindness for yourself; when you make this your first choice; our honour every living being because you cannot be kind and loving unto yourself without extending this outward.

The expression and nature of kindness is all consuming.  When we as a planet decide how we must treat others, we need to begin here with our self; with our internal language, our inner dialogue; the messages and beliefs that we hold as individuals and understanding of this; if we are unkind, unloving, critical, hurtful; in our words spoken inward or aloud to our self, then we must first change this.

We cannot hold love in our heart to another living being when we are distraught, angered, resentful; if we are judging another; if we o not allow someone the same rights and privileges that we want for our self.

You must practice kindness unto yourself first if you are to nurture the kind of relationships that are of love with all others.  Regardless of what you have been taught; regardless of what you have known because your experiences have continued to shape your existing perspective, you must be willing to stand ground to this.

To make kindness and love your first and only choices if you are to live a life of peace and immense joy and to see the world as it is; as heaven on earth.  You decide this. You live based on your inner perceptions projected outward.  Every thought is powerful.  Every choice that you make holds the distinct line of what will be your liberation and freedom or what holds you back; what limits your world view; what causes your own suffering.

George Floyd will forever be a reminder of this.  You may choose kindness and love above all else.  You may choose it as dignity and grace unto yourself and towards all others because this is our new liberation; our new hope; our new normal.  Kindness as love directed first unto yourself and then towards all other living beings.  This too is what we all must choose now.

As you listen to the prose meditation that follows, let yourself close your eyes.  Feel the words.  Let their meaning fill you with hope and promise of a new normal that you may choose for yourself.  For all others.  Namaste! xo

Why You Need To Unplug From Technology For A Day: The Science of How A Digital Detox Improves Your Life

The WISDOM podcast  Season 2  Episode 6

with Dorothy Ratusny

TIMESTAMPS:

Podcast Intro:  0-2:10  |  An Introduction to this Episode: 2:11 |  How To Unplug: 6:05  | What is One Thing That You Discovered During Your Digital Detox?  20:19  |  Podcast Outro:  20:46

You may have thought about it; or even attempted it; but have you ever completely unplugged from technology for  o n e  d a y?  This means not reaching for your phone or tablet as one of your first habits of the morning; choosing instead to contemplate what you are most aware of; what thoughts you want to hold - and how you want to feel?  - even as your senses may be highly acute - and yearning for a deliberate dose of something.  But what? - comfort? meaningful connection? curiosity? validation?  escape?

What is the experience of a day in your life - best enjoyed - without the comfort and luxury of the internet, phone calls, emails, texts, and anything else that keeps you tightly enmeshed in the matrix?  How will you live off the grid for an entire 24 hours?  Why would you want to?

TRUTH SERUM: One of the greatest contributors to our global levels of worry, stress, and sadness is the result of not having time alone; whether in a solitude activity of regular inner contemplation and reflection.  Doing do, you may initially experience a degree of discomfort that you soon find released; soothed from, as you choose to use your unplugged time to be with you - and to establish a nourishing and positive relationship with your inner self.

A-HA MOMENTS: The advent of personal cellular devices and our increasing reliance on being 'plugged in' has many benefits.  However, your 'technology free' day may be an important step in seeking to know yourself better - and to question some of the perpetual habits that may keep you in a cycle of choices that do not serve you.

PRACTICAL WISDOM: Notice what you discover about yourself; your desires, and what reminds you of the importance of unplugging regularly.  20 minutes a day might be perfect - to be with yourself - to identify and nourish your needs and perhaps to know what greater meaning is revealed here - in the present - away from any need to 'do' or 'accomplish' - instead holding attention, patience, and love - directed inward.

TIMESTAMPS:

Podcast Intro:  0-2:09  |  Episode Intro and a Little About My Experience and Training of Meditation: 2:13 |  Hope For The New Conditions of Our Lives and This Prose Meditation:  4:15  | HOPE Meditation: 6:46  |   Podcast Outro: 17:36

In this week's episode, I wish to share with you a special meditation on hope. Hope for the new conditions of our lives that will move us into a kinder and more compassionate world; hope for each one of us as we surge forward, our lives ultimately changed and that we may embrace what change can be for the better, to lead us deeper into our selves and to the oneness of our beautiful nature as love in action.

Hope that as you are guided through this prose meditation; and as you settle in to a comfortable posture, let yourself be guided by my words and notice what impressions and insights arise for you.

A-HA MOMENTS:  Our lives are always meant to be of grace; of wonder; of the most privilege because this is our inherent state.

PRACTICAL WISDOM:  As much change as we are all experiencing right now, and during this time of a global pandemic; this meditation reminds us that hope needs to be present for the deliberate teachings of our heart; stirring, rising up; to be the messages that we honour for our new lives; for our lives always.

TRUTH SERUM:  Breathe in new life, new choices, new reasons for choosing to live in harmony with each other and the planet.  It is always possible to find peace; to choose what will sustain us.

Reclaim Your Life: The Path to Living Awakened

The WISDOM podcast  Season 2 Episode 4

with Dorothy Ratusny

"Each time that you make a conscious effort to look for and see what 'is' (true), you shift yourself into present moment awareness; that is, you become awake and aware - mindful - for as long as you choose to live in this state." - dorothy ratusny

TIMESTAMPS:

Podcast Intro:  0-2:10  |  Introducing This Episode and The Secret to Reclaim Your Life: 2:11 |  How We All Have "Aha" Moments:  4:21  | My Client Mackenzie: 5:24  |  What Happens When You Are Not Fully Awake:  6:33  |  The Questions That Instantly Bring You Back Into The Present Moment:  9:34  |  How To Experience Your 'Flash of Light' Like Mackenzie:  11:29  |   Podcast Outro: 15:50

There are not only single moments that you awaken to.  You live awake and aware as you live of the present moment; and willing to live in your truth.

In this episode of the wisdom podcast, I share with you one client's story that speaks to the remarkable way in which we all have 'aha' moments; moments of awakening to what is true and we also have a choice in those moments.

We may choose how we will live - awake and aware, or in denial and avoidance, ignoring, not wanting to know; deliberating, telling our self whatever will help us to feel better temporarily even if it is not accurate.  I'd like you to listen to my client: Mackenzie's story, as she came to the liberating and powerful realization that her awakened state was more than a single moment and that she - like you, can choose a path of living awake and reclaiming life.

A-HA MOMENTS:  We are now encouraged as a planet to question everything; to return to what we know to be true and right and we can apply this awakened state of being to how we will live the rest of our life.

PRACTICAL WISDOM:  We are rediscovering what it means to direct the course of our life; to no longer live on automatic pilot doing what were told we should do by others who were also told this.

TRUTH SERUM: In today's brave new world, we are surrounded by the ability to choose with awareness; with living awake to our experiences and to what it means to choose consciously, mindfully and deliberate because living awake is also the precursor for living in your truth.

When you begin to ask questions of your inner nature; your highest self (your truth), and then to listen and acknowledge the answers that come; with some patience, you will likely also experience a flash of light, an ‘aha moment’, something similar to what Mackenzie described; that marks your awakened state, and the freedom to choose how you will now live your life.

This gateway into truth is completely yours to decide.  You may not approve of everything that you see with eyes wide open. Perhaps like Mackenzie and others, who go through a myriad of emotions including sadness and regret for living so much of their life in a habitual way that rarely honoured their own needs and desires, you too may feel remorse or self-loathing for what you are now discovering.

If you would like my help as you open yourself to living awake and to the ongoing commitment of being self-honest and wholly truthful, please reach out to me. Let me help.  You can find me at:  dorothyratusny.com

 love, dorothy

The Future Is NOW

The WISDOM podcast  Season 2 Episode 3

with Dorothy Ratusny

In this episode we continue to discuss the importance of this time in your life. (If you like, you may wish to listen to last week’s episode of Season 2, or any of the bonus episodes that closed out season one as we continue to navigate this new future that we are now stepping into.) Even as this episode is released months into this global pandemic of 2020, the messages that I share are omnipresent and incredibly important for when you listen; because now is the future.

A-HA MOMENTS:  For however you have been living your life up until this moment, you must realize that you have been choosing your future.

PRACTICAL WISDOM:  What I want to emphasize and inspire at this time and in this brave new world that we are all being “rebirthed” into; is the absolute need for greater conscious choice; to wield the freedom that you hold, to inspire what you deeply desire; and to live fearless of this as you go and slay this; because you now understand that you are able to have everything that you have always wanted.

TRUTH SERUM:  What you have been wanting and waiting for is before you now. Now is the time to take new action. This time is unprecedented in our lives; and with it is the possibility for change and new beginnings of consciousness and of loving-kindness for all living beings. Now is the time to set in motion what you have been wanting for so long. Now is your time. It is the time for all of us to mobilize into action what is most wanted, and to step forth into this brave new world that we are living.

Everything that you will attain now comes with work and effort; but it is most possible. It comes with desire that must be steadfast and laser focused, and of course belief in your deserving of this.
